News flash:
- 2014/05/31: Once again, the inflation dance: .com and .org are now $12/year.
- 2011/04/20: Due to creeping price inflation, .com domains are now $11/year.
- 2011/04/07: Due to creeping price inflation, .org domains are now $11/year.
- 2005/01/17: New OpenSRS client scripts have been loaded. This means
you can lock and unlock your domains to protect against fraudulent transfers.
As a courtesy, a request to lock all domains registered through sackheads.org to date has
been submitted, which should take effect in 48 hours.A
Update: 11 minutes later, it's already in effect. OpenSRS rocks!
- Returning users, please take a moment to think about whether all of
your contact email addresses are up to date and *valid*. We're seeing an
increasing number of bounces from the renewal reminders, which usually
results in an expired domain. Please be aware that unless it's really
obvious where to come find you in such a scenario, we're probably not going
to bother. Lives to live and so on. So, if you're
No name <private@private.com>, that's why your domains died.

- verisign, register.com and domain registry of america (none of them
deserve capitalisation in their names) are all mailing renewal notices for
domains registered through us. Obviously, you are free to change to their
services at any time, but you do NOT have to. What they are sending
you are NOT renewal notices - they are trying to scam you into
transferring your DNS business to them.
You may feel like filling in
a Mail
fraud complaint form at the US Postal Service. Whether that will do any
good is unclear.
Examples:
Please contact us if you wish to
turn on "domain locking" to ensure that your domains are not
accidently transferred to another registrar. (We will turn off locking
on request should you decide to transfer away).
You may also be interested in a
class action lawsuit filed against Verisign for this deceptive practice
- Slight policy change:
Due to the understandable popularity of our at-cost
registration service, we've experienced a sometimes bewildering deluge of
registration requests. This, combined with our pay-as-you-like policy has
unfortunately caused SackDNS to operate significantly above cost, even
with the diligence and generosity of many of you. So, unless you have made
prior arrangements with us regarding specific domains, please consider the
standard OpenSRS domain fee to be compulsory and required in advance.
In short: We cannot process your requests unless you pay up first.
Also, please remember that domain renewals cost just as much as registrations. :)
- SackDNS now supports domain registrations in the .co.uk and .org.uk second level domains
- SackDNS now supports domain registrations in the .ca top level domain
Older News:
So Verisign decide that the shared registry is overloaded by registrars
trying to grab expired domain names as soon as they are released. Their
solution is to stop releasing
expired domains.
Fair enough, you might think. However, in a strange coincidence Verisign
have started offering their SnapBack
service, which includes "monitoring the name around the clock, 24/7". Just
who is overloading the registry?
Look at some
utter nonsense from Verisign and be outraged (or just laugh..)
William Walsh wrote a
prompt reply to it, and here is
our response. Feel free to communicate
your feelings on the matter to
comments@icann.org.
Please note:
We do not do this for profit; we do this as a service, because NSI sucks
and we want a better solution that's sane, and know that many of our
friends do as well. All of this comes out of our pockets. We are
not a business, nor do we want to be (which is why we do not take credit
cards -- we want neither the hassle nor the responsibility of handling your
financial data.)
If you are able to use Yahoo PayDirect
or Paypal, please send payment for your
registrations along with your requests. The costs are:
- net: $10 per year
- com/org: $11 per year
- ca: $18 per year
- uk: $13 per two years
- us: $10 per year
If you want
to tack on a little extra for infrastructure costs we certainly won't
complain. Our Paypal address is registrar@sackheads.org. For PayDirect,
use Brian Naylor / brian@sackheads.org.
(paypal now allow international users to obtain accounts)
(paypal also skims 2.9% + 30c per receiving transaction - ($0.59 out of $10))
You may also send antiquated paper checks to the contact address for
sackheads.org as listed in the WHOIS database if you absolutely must, but
please send an email saying that you have done so.
